Position Overview: The Corporate Relations Officer is responsible for maintaining a portfolio of corporate prospects and relationships for The University of Toledo Foundation in key sectors relating to the University’s strengths. The position’s main priority will be engaging corporations to support the students, faculty, and community of The University of Toledo (UToledo) through holistic and collaborative partnerships, sponsorships, and philanthropic support.

Key Responsibilities: 

The following list of duties reflects management’s assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

  • Identify and pursue potential new major corporate relationships in areas such as engineering, business administration, the arts and humanities, pharmacy, and the sciences.
  • Meet with targeted corporations to learn about their plans and interests with the objective of identifying and building significant alliances for UToledo across the spectrum of the relationship including philanthropy, research partnerships, educational opportunities and talent.
  • Manage a strategic travel and communications schedule with new and existing corporate partners to build and enrich UToledo’s relationships.
  • Strategically link institution and programmatic initiatives with opportunities for corporate fundraising and business development.
  • Create opportunities for regular and substantive contact between high-level corporate executives and appropriate administrators, colleges, directors and key faculty.
  • Coordinate, draft, edit and submit multi-college proposals for annual and special project support from corporate prospects.
  • Coordinate with appropriate UToledo offices to implement corporate alliances, steward relationships and solicit funds.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote corporate giving opportunities.
  • Educate deans and faculty about corporate fundraising strategies and best practices.
  • Work in conjunction with alumni to engage alumni and parents who have established relationships with corporate prospects.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Engagement and with appropriate University partners in developing a coordinated strategy to engage targeted corporations with UToledo’s programs, researchers and educational mission and solicit philanthropic support.
Qualifications: Knowledge equivalent to the completion of a four-year college degree is required, with a degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field preferred. Candidates should have three to five years of related experience in public relations, higher education fundraising, marketing, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Higher education fundraising experience is preferred. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong writing, research, presentation, and relationship-building skills, along with an understanding of the corporate sector. The position requires the ability to assess philanthropic capacity, identify institutional priorities, and develop compelling proposals, presentations, budgets, and correspondence. Candidates should be self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and able to build effective internal and external partnerships while managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, creativity, and initiative are essential. This position requires travel and a valid driver’s license.
